Identity verification & payouts on SitSignal (Stripe Identity + Connect)

SitSignal uses two Stripe systems to keep the marketplace safe: Stripe Identity verifies that sitters are real people, and Stripe Connect pays sitters securely. Here's what each does and why both matter.

Stripe Identity vs Stripe Connect

SystemWhat it doesWhy it matters
Stripe IdentityVerifies a sitter's identity with a government-issued IDConfirms sitters are real and builds trust
Stripe ConnectHandles payouts to the sitter's bank accountMakes sure you get paid securely and reliably

What is Stripe Identity?

Stripe Identity is the verification step during sitter onboarding. It confirms you're a real person, requires a government-issued ID, and helps prevent fraud and fake accounts. You must complete it before accepting bookings.

What is Stripe Connect?

Stripe Connect lets SitSignal pay sitters. It connects your bank account, handles marketplace payments, and supports tax and payout reporting. You must complete it before you can receive payment.

Why SitSignal uses both

Together they build trust through identity verification, ensure reliable payments through Stripe Connect, and create accountability by combining verification with payment security.

Sitter activation steps

New sitters complete these in order:

  • Create your sitter profile
  • Pay the one-time $5 verification fee
  • Complete Stripe Identity
  • Complete Stripe Connect onboarding

Both Identity and Connect must finish before your account is fully active.
