This Privacy Policy describes how SitSignal ("SitSignal," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information when you use our websites, mobile apps, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to the practices described here. For Terms governing your use of the Services, see our Terms of Service.

  • Home Profiles: home access details, safety notes, and disclosed indoor camera presence/locations.
  • Booking & Transaction: booking details, dates, services, prices, payment status, refunds.
  • Communications: in‑app messages, replies, reactions, pinned messages, reviews, and support communications.
  • Ratings & Trust Signals: star ratings, written feedback, cancellation history, and response metrics used to maintain marketplace quality and safety.
  • Program Status: Partnered Sitter eligibility, application details, verification materials, and approval status.
  • Device & Usage: app and browser information, IP address, identifiers, pages or screens viewed, and interactions.
  • Push Notification Data: device push token (e.g., Expo/Apple/Google token), notification settings, and delivery receipts.
  • Payment Data: last4 of card, card brand, and payment intent status via Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Sitter Identity & Tax (Stripe): information Stripe may require from sitters for identity verification and tax reporting (e.g., legal name, date of birth, SSN/last4, government ID images, and address). SitSignal does not store full SSNs; collection and verification occur via Stripe.

  • Visit Media: photos and notes submitted during check‑ins or visit summaries.
  • Booking Completion: timestamps for sitter-submitted final reports and automated booking completion based on scheduled end times.
2. How We Use Information
  • Provide and improve the Services, including account creation, bookings, messaging, and customer support.
  • Process payments and refunds through Stripe and show accurate pricing (including holiday rates when applicable).
  • Send service, booking, and security notifications (including push notifications and email).
  • Maintain safety, verify check‑ins, enforce our Terms (e.g., on‑platform communications/payments), prevent fraud, address disputes, and moderate or block messages that attempt to share contact details or off‑platform payments.
  • Assess service quality, enforce eligibility standards (such as ratings), and take action on cancellations, incident reports, chargebacks, or policy violations.
  • Evaluate Partnered Sitter applications, verify eligibility, administer program benefits, and review ongoing compliance.
  • Analyze usage to improve performance and user experience.
  • Automatically mark bookings as completed based on final report submission or scheduled end time.
3. Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand usage. You can manage cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may limit certain features.

4. Third‑Party Services

We use third‑party service providers to operate the Services, such as Firebase (authentication, hosting, database, analytics), Stripe (payment processing), and Expo/Apple/Google push notification services. These providers may process limited personal information on our behalf consistent with their own privacy policies and our agreements with them.

For sitters: Stripe may require additional information to verify your identity and to meet tax reporting obligations (for example, legal name, date of birth, Social Security Number or last4, address, and government‑issued identification). This information is collected and processed by Stripe under its own terms and privacy policy. SitSignal does not store full SSNs and relies on Stripe’s secure collection and verification flows.

5. Push Notifications

With your consent, the mobile app collects and stores a device‑specific push notification token (e.g., an Expo push token) to deliver alerts for new messages, payment reminders, and booking updates. You can control notifications in your device settings or within the app. If you disable notifications, some features may not work as intended.

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers (e.g., Stripe, Firebase, Expo), to comply with legal obligations, to protect rights and safety, or with your consent. Limited booking details are shared between clients and sitters as needed to fulfill a booking (for example, pet care notes, visit photos, location check‑ins tied to the booking, and home profile disclosures such as indoor camera presence/locations). We prohibit off‑platform solicitation of contact details for payment or booking purposes and may review or share policy‑violation logs or relevant messages with support staff to enforce our Terms. Booking status updates (such as marking a booking complete) may be visible to the other party for transparency and payout processing. When disputes or incident reports arise, we may share relevant communications, records, and evidence with the other party and our payment processor to resolve the issue.

For Partnered Sitter applications, we may review and retain provided links, booking proof, and social metrics, and may share limited verification details with trusted service providers or internal reviewers to confirm eligibility.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Push tokens are retained while active and deleted or de‑associated when invalidated, expired, or upon account deletion where feasible. Visit records and check‑in data may be retained to support refunds, disputes, or safety reviews. Ratings, reviews, and incident reports may be retained to maintain platform integrity and address repeat issues. Certain payment, identity, and tax‑related records may be retained for longer where required by law.

8. Security

We implement administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Your Choices & Rights

California residents have the right to request access to and deletion of personal information, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt‑out of the sale or sharing of personal information. SitSignal does not sell personal information. To exercise rights, contact support@sitsignal.com.

11. GDPR (EEA/UK) Data Rights

Where applicable, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Our legal bases include performance of a contract (providing bookings and related services), legitimate interests (security, improvement), and consent (push notifications). You may withdraw consent at any time through settings or by contacting us.
